MTCC’s former CEO Adam Azim states he is contesting the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s primary for the by-election of Male’ City Mayor with a plan to transform Male’ City to a pleasant environment.
Azim made the remark while speaking to the press after submitting his form for MDP’s primary.
In this regard, Azim said MDP’s goal is to take Male’ from its current state to a better state. He added that all responsibilities he has been bestowed had been undertaken with this goal in mind.
He described the decision to contest for mayorship as a step forward in this trajectory.
Azim, noting he will only be able to serve as the mayor for a short period of a little over two years, said a difference could be shown if work is undertaken after clarifying the current state.
He further said he would not become the mayor by deceiving the people – adding that there will be goals that could be accomplished within two and a half years, which would be explained to the people.
“For example, it takes 18 months to construct a 10-story building, but I am saying it will be completed in one week. That is a lie. Some people have come to power by saying such lies. But we will say the reality, that approximately 18 months will be required to construct a 10-story building,” he said.
Azim pledged to listen to the people if he is elected mayor and to work closely with them. In this regard, he said he would hold regular meetings with the people.
The post of Male’ City Mayor became vacant when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who held the post previously, tendered his resignation to take the oath of presidency on November 17th.
Other individuals who have announced their intention to contest the by-election include former youth minister Ahmed Mahloof, Male’ City Council member Said Fathih, former Attorney General Aishath Azima Shukoor and former Commissioner of Police Hussain Waheed.
