HDh. Atoll Chief Magistrate demoted in separate case as dismissal pends in parliament

HDh. Atoll Chief Magistrate Ali Adam – accused of calling and harassing a woman who filed a divorce petition with the court – has been demoted to Magistrate at HDh. Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate Court in a separate case.

JSC, on Monday, said their probe into a complaint against Ali Adam found him guilty of negligence in hearing a case submitted to the court.

Following his demotion, JSC, on Monday, has appointed Magistrate Mohamed Ismail as acting Chief Magistrate of HDh. judicial constituency. 

Ali Adam’s demotion comes at a time JSC, after he was found guilty of misconduct in two separate cases, filed two motions with the parliament seeking to dismiss him.

They remain pending at the parliament. 

JSC has expressed concern over the delays in the proceedings of the motions; the first of which they had filed on July 23^rd.

Ali Adam is accused of repeatedly calling and texting one of the petitioners of a divorce petition submitted to the Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate Courts.

He has been on suspension since May based on the statement Ali Adam provided to the commission, the nature of the allegation against him, and the information collected in the case.

Around the same time, the police arrested two people for threatening to kill Ali Adam. The suspects, identified as a 23-year-old and a 25-year-old, reportedly made the threat after confronting Ali Adam at the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.

However, it is unclear if the two cases are related.
