Adhurey: Muizzu didn't want to take away from PPM when he asked to recruit 10,000 members for PNC

PNC, which will take over the government on November 17, has been asked by its President and President-elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu to reach 10,000 members without any intention of hurting PPM or its President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

With Former President Yameen recently being changed from prison to being banned from leaving the Male’ area, he said at an informal meeting held at the PPM office that PPM members do not necessarily have to switch to the PNC. 

Earlier, Dr Muizzu had asked the PNC members to work hard to make sure PNC reaches 10,000 members.

Afterwards, Yameen's remarks were shared with a group of both presidents and Dr. Muizzu instructed them to continue the work of recruiting members.

Meanwhile, PNC Chairman Abdul Raheem told Sun that the recruitment process is not done with the intention of harming PPM or President Yameen.

He said the existing ordinary members of PPM would not be taken from PPM and signed to PNC.

“President Muizzu's letter also says that no PPM members should be transferred to the PNC inorder for them to reach 10,000 members,” he said.

Dr Muizzu's intention is to reach that number within three months. And for PPM/PNC to contest the parliamentary elections together and win a majority in Parliament.

PNC was formed after the differences between Yameen and the then PPM leader, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, escalated and Yameen feared losing PPM at the point of filing the case in court.
