ACC orders to halt lease of commercial units from police flats

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has ordered to halt of leasing commercial units from the flats developed for police personnel.

ACC’s Spokesperson Nishan Mohamed Didi told Sun that a complaint has been submitted to the commission regarding how the process of the lease of these units has been carried out. He said the commission has therewith ordered to halt the lease of the commercial units as there is an investigation underway.

However, he did not disclose further details regarding the case.

The development of the flats allocated for police personnel was first awarded to Police Corporative (POLCO) in 2012. However, the project still remains incomplete, in light of various delays.

It was an electoral pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to complete the flats within one year of assuming office. His electoral term, is now in its last days.

Housing Ministry took over the project, contracting it to AMIN Construction for MVR 250 million in December 2021 to be completed within 240 days. An extension was awarded in September 2022, after the company also failed to complete the works.

The project involves three towers comprising of 361 units in total, measuring 1,100 square feet on average.
