Art and Culture Minister, Yumna Maumoon has announced her support President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in the upcoming elections.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Yumna said she believes it is important to elect the President for a second term “for the development and stability of the country.”
“It is important to continue the important works and projects started by this government to make it easier for the people,” she said.
Yumna had been appointed to the Cabinet on a slot to President Solih’s then-coalition partner, the Maldives Reform Movemnet (MRM).
Her endorsement of President Solih’s re-election bid comes as her brother and MRM’s president, Faris Maumoon contests the upcoming presidential election as an independent candidate.
Yumna’s brother Ghassan Maumoon is in the PPM-PNC coalition, and her twin sister, Dunya Maumoon is behind MNP candidate Mohamed Nazim.
Their father, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, has announced his support for Faris.
