Maldives Police Services on Wednesday revealed that they were probing into a case of domestic violence against a female officer.

Media official from the authority confirmed this, stating that they have received a complaint of domestic violence against a female office, and that they have commenced an investigation.

The official said that based on the findings so far, an investigation is also being carried out by the Professional Standards command as well.

News published by the first publication to report on this incident alleged that during the investigation process there were attempts to cover up the truth behind this.

Addressing these claims, the media official dismissed the claims, and said that the article on such a serious issue was written without any attempts to contact the authority for any information. The official branded the claims by the publication to be false.

Furthermore, the official expressed concern on behalf of the police over publishing such news in a manner that could lead to the public losing its faith in the institution, without any prior effort to ensure the accuracy of the information.
