The Maldivian man who was arrested with 50 bottles of alcohol in Addu City’s Hithadhoo district during a special operation carried out by the police last Tuesday has been released from custody by the court.
Police said the operation was carried out based on intel received regarding an attempt to smuggle alcohol to Hithadhoo.
The operation carried out collaboratively by Hithadhoo Police Station and Police Intelligence saw the arrest of a 43-year-old Maldivian man.
He was arrested from Hithadhoo’s woods where the alcohol had also been discovered.
When presented before Hithadhoo Magistrate Court for a remand hearing, the court released him.
Another operation was carried out in Hithadhoo two days ahead of this operation in which material believed to brew alcohol was seized.
However, no arrests were made during the earlier operation.
