Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been awarded an MVR 76.1 million project to develop the roads of GA. Gemanafushi using asphalt.
The contract was signed by Planning Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed and RDC’s General Manager Hussain Nadheem.
According to the Planning Ministry, the project involves laying asphalt on 2.8 kilometers of road, and installing a storm drain system and street lights.
RDC is required to complete the project in 540 days.
Gemanafushi Council’s president Ibrahim Nashid told Sun that development of the island’s roads is one of the biggest dreams of the island’s residents.
“We face major flooding whenever it rains. This government project will solve these issues,” he said.
Gemanafushi is a 53.7-hector island populated by some 1,900 people. Though most famous as a fishing island, some of the island’s residents also engage in farming.
