A man who went missing at sea nearly 50 years ago is being sought again for confirmation of whether he is alive or deceased. The Magistrate Court of Gemanafushi has issued a public notice regarding the matter.
The notice, issued on Thursday, seeks information on Hassan Mohamed of Thandi-raiy-maage, G.A. Dhiyadhoo.
According to the court, anyone with knowledge of whether Hassan is alive or has passed away is requested to inform the Gemanafushi Magistrate Court within 10 days.
A media officer from the Gemanafushi Magistrate Court told Sun that the request was made by Hassan’s son as part of an inheritance case.
“He was lost in a sea accident,” the official said.
Dhiyadhoo, once an inhabited island, was declared uninhabited in 2010. A steadily dwindling population made sustaining an independent island community difficult on Dhiyadhoo, and former residents now live in Gemanafushi, G.A. Kondey, or L. Gan.
