President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih states that there will be “little left to do” in terms of infrastructure development once the projects conducted during his five-year term are complete.

Speaking during a function on Sunday night to celebrate his administration’s development projects in Addu, President Solih said he is running development projects across Maldives.

He said that once the projects are complete, there will be little left to do to develop infrastructure.

“From essential services such as water, sanitation, electricity, education and health to transport, sports and so on, we have conducted projects the likes of which hasn’t been seen in Maldives in ages. Projects are in progress even now. Its safe to say that once the projects are complete, there will be little left to do in terms of infrastructure development in Maldives. But there will be come work left,” he said.

President Solih said that there isn’t a single island from the north to the south of Maldives where development projects aren’t being run.

“WE ARE IMPLEMENTING THE MANIFESTO OF THE ADDU PEOPLE”

President Solih noted that Addu had been the last stop in his campaign trail back in 2018. He said that he had been presented with a manifesto of the vision held by the people of Addu for the development of the city during his visit.

“The vision for the development of Addu, written by the people of Addu. The book was presented to me by the then-mayor [Abdulla Sodiq (Soabe],” he said.

President Solih said the people of Addu were seeing the realization of their vision.

Noting that he is up for re-election, President Solih said that now is the time for the people of Addu to envision and plan the future of the city.

He said that establishing peace and stability throughout Maldives will remain his priority in a second term.

He said that stability was crucial for development.

“Therefore, same as these five years, our goal for the next five years should also be the establishment of peace and stability in Maldives,” he said.

President Solih said he will also pay special focus on solving major social issues facing the country if elected for a second term in office.

Fixing the social issues is the path to stability in this country, he said.

Sunday’s function saw a display of fireworks over the Hithadhoo City Square, coupled with live music, attracting a large crowd of people.
