Govt. announces plans to establish a national fertility care program

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Monday, has announced that his administration was undertaking necessary steps to introduce a comprehensive national fertility care program.

The announcement was made while speaking at the inauguration of Tree Top Hospital’s (TTH) Fertility Centre.

In his remarks, President Solih underscored the significance of the fertility clinic that opened today at TTH, highlighting its status as a novel service in the Maldives.

He emphasized the crucial role of such fertility services in the country, specifically noting the achievement of accessible treatment options to individuals in need by eliminating the need to travel overseas allowing them to stay close to their families while not jeopardizing their employment.

President Solih assured TTH’s management of his administration’s unwavering support to further enhance and expand the service.

He also provided insight into the administration’s efforts to establish a nationwide comprehensive fertility care program. On this note, he detailed that relevant authorities are engaged in an extensive study of best practices and procedures implemented in other countries as formulating a program that effectively caters to the needs of those who require such assistance the most is of utmost importance.

Moreover, he noted that the government is actively engaged in identifying individuals who meet the criteria for participation in the program. Extensive efforts are also underway to widely disseminate fertility health information to raise awareness. President Solih also highlighted the economic benefits of providing such services in the Maldives, as it paves way for significant cost savings for individuals who otherwise would have to seek treatment abroad and positively impacts the overall economy.
