Over 10,000 traffic tickets issued in Q1

Statistics show the police issued traffic tickets to over 10,000 vehicles in the first quarter of this year.

According to the statistics released by police, they issued traffic tickets to total 10,617 vehicles between January and March. This includes 5,093 motorbikes, 3,978 cars, 853 pickups, 475 vans, 107 jeeps, and 111 trucks.

543 motorbikes were towed for traffic violations during the period, along with 40 cars, eight pickups, seven vans, 13 bicycles, and three electric bikes.

The statistics also show that between January and March, the police investigated 539 road accidents in which 77 people were injured.

516 of the accidents took place in the greater Male’ area. Nine of the accidents took place in Fuvahmulah City, six in Addu City, three in Kulhudhuffushi, and five in other islands.

824 people were held for unlicensed driving, and 284 for driving after having their license suspended.

443 people were held for speeding, and 243 people for using their phones while driving.
