13 arrested in crackdown on prostitution ring

13 people have been arrested from the Maldivian capital in a crackdown on an alleged prostitution ring.

The 13 suspects include eight Bangladeshi males, one Bangladeshi female, and four Thai females.

They were arrested in raids on four locations in Male’ City on Wednesday night, in a joint operation by the Police Anti-Human Trafficking Department, Police Intelligence, and Maldives Immigration.

According to police, the operation targeted an organized criminal ring.

The case is under further investigation by the police.

Police have investigated 58 cases of prostitution over the last four years, and made over 100 arrests.
