Govt. announces seven fully funded scholarships in medical doctor specialization

Higher Education Ministry has announced seven fully funded scholarships in medical doctor specialization.

An official from Higher Education Ministry told Sun on Thursday that the purpose of the scholarship was to offer super-specialist training in areas required for the Maldives.

“Another purpose is to bring in doctors who are willing to base themselves in atolls to provide services,” the official added.

Applications have been opened for the scholarships at present.

The areas scholarships have been opened include;

• Anesthesiology  
• Internal Medicine
• Spine Surgery
• Gynecology
• General Surgery
• Pediatrics

Recipients can choose any country from a list of 21 for their studies. They include Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Malta, Czech Republic, Mauritius, Egypt, South Africa, Algeria and Saudi Arabia.

The eligibility criteria for the scholarships are as follows;

• MBBS holder
• Specialty in orthopedics for spine surgery
• Specialty in pediatric pulmonology for pediatrics
• Registered member of Maldives Medical and Dental Council

Additional eligibility requirements have also been listed in the announcement.

13:30pm on May 4^th is the deadline for applications to these scholarships. Applications can be submitted through Higher Education’s MyEdu portal.
