Man crossing road on wheelchair injured after getting hit by car

Urbanco’s disability ambassador, Ahmed Najeeb, sustained various injuries after being a hit by a car while he was crossing the road at zebra crossing in Hulhumale’ Phase II.

Najeeb’s younger sibling told Sun on Friday that the incident took place at approximately 9:10pm on Thursday night. The sibling detailed that Najeeb was thrown off his wheelchair after getting hit by a private car while crossing the road at zebra crossing in Hulhumale’ Phase II.

He was immediately taken to the hospital following the accident, however, was discharged at approximately 10:30pm last night citing no serious injuries.

“Was taken back to the hospital after difficulties in breathing early last night approximately 1:30am. An additional test and a CT scan were performed,” the sibling said.

The results showed that Najeeb sustained a hip fracture. His sibling, citing doctors, said the injury required surgery.

However, Najeeb had tested positive for COVID-19, and therewith, was taken to COVID facility for admission. His family states that the surgery is expected to take place in seven days.  

Najeeb’s wheelchair was severely damaged in the accident.

Najeeb, an employee at Urbanco, is also the disability ambassador of the company. He also serves as the vice chairperson of Maldives Association of Persons with Disabilities (MAPD).

He has starred in various videos aimed to increase awareness among the public on persons with disabilities.
