The new building of Galolhu Police Station was officially inaugurated on Thursday.
The new building, located at National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) building, was inaugurated by Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed during a special ceremony. The old Galolhu Police Station had been located at Male’ Hiyaa.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Police Ali Rasheed, executive and commissioned officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) in addition to senior officials from Galolhu Police Station.
Police said that operations of Galolhu Police Station was switched from Male’ Hiyaa to NSPA building as the former had been significantly worn down and could no longer be considered an appropriate location to provide public service.
NSPA building was selected as the new location of Galolhu Police Station from proposals submitted once the tender was announced. MPS is renting the building for a period of two and a half years.
As the provision of services commences at the building – Galolhu Police’s response officers, investigation officers and neighborhood officers will be working under the same building. Therewith, MPS states the shift in location would further strengthen services provided to residents of the district.
