President Solih meets leaders of Palestine, Seychelles, and Timor-Leste

Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with several foreign leaders on the sidelines of the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) on Sunday, including the Palestinian President Dr. Mahmoud Abbas.

At the meeting with President Abbas, President Solih reaffirmed the strong support and unwavering commitment of the government and the people of the Maldives to the people and the government of the Palestine in their quest to achieve their legitimate right to self-determination.

Both leaders also discussed shared values and strong cultural ties between the two countries.

President Abbas conveyed his gratitude to President Solih, the government, and the people of the Maldives for the continued support to Palestine and its people.

Before concluding the meeting, President Solih repeatedly affirmed the Maldives' commitment to advocate for the rights of the Palestinian people in their quest for recognition and dignity, and to promote their cause.

The meeting had been preceded by a meeting with the Seychellois President Wavel Ramkalawan.

At the meeting, President Solih and President Ramkalawan discussed various topics, including climate change and tourism. They discussed efforts to restore tourism to pre-pandemic levels, as well as working together in the international arena on issues of mutual interest, such as climate change, and playing a more prominent role in the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and as members of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS).

Both leaders expressed optimism about further strengthening the Seychelles-Maldives relationship and finding ways to collaborate internationally.

President Solih also met with the President of Timor-Leste Dr. José Ramos-Horta.

At the meeting, President Solih and President Dr Ramos-Horta discussed issues of mutual interest, both regional and international, and agreed to work together to achieve a common goal.

The two leaders also highlighted the vibrant relations between the two nations, and reaffirmed their commitment to working together in matters of mutual interest and their dedication to further strengthening diplomatic relations between the two nations.

President Solih arrived in Doha, Qatar, to attend the conference on Saturday.
