All civil servants to receive salary increment

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that when the project to harmonize all government workers' salaries concludes, all government workers will have received a salary increment. 

During his presidential speech at the inaugural sitting of the first session of the parliament for the prevailing year, the President laid out his plans to bring positive changes to the salary of all civil service employees. As part of the plan, starting from May of this year, all healthcare workers will receive a higher salary.

“I have harmonized the salary of all education sector employees like I said last year. The positive changes were brought in the timeframe I vowed to do it in. Next, for this year is the health sector. All healthcare workers will receive a higher salary starting from May 1st, by the will of God,” he said.

Under the project to bring positive changes to the salary of government workers, teachers were the first to receive a higher salary, which was put into motion last year.

President Solih, during his address, said that healthcare workers, and lecturers who work in universities and colleges will be the next to see an increased salary. This will also come into motion in March.

“Employees in government offices who do not receive a 35 percent allowance will be receiving that allowance starting from May 1 as well. And university employees will also receive a higher salary from March onwards,” Solih said.

He further said that when this project is concluded all civil service workers, including imams and muezzins, will see a positive change in their earnings.

“With the end of pay harmonizing, the religious sector of the government, including Imaams, and all other civil service employees will be included in the project,” he said.

The increment has been announced at a time when there is public worry due to the increase in prices that came with the tax hike.
