Schools mark 35th National Poet’s Day

Schools across the Maldives marked the 35th National Poet’s Day on Sunday.

This year, National Poet’s Day has been dedicated to the talented poet, Ramlaa Abdul Ghany.

Dhivehi Language Academy (DLA) said that they had requested all schools across the Maldives to hold colorful events to mark the occasion.

In this regard, many schools had their Sunday assemblies centered around poetry, while students read out different poems. These schools include Iskandar School, Ameeniyya School, K. Dhiffushi School, GDh. Thinadhoo School and Thinadhoo Aboobakuru School.

Iskandar School’s Deputy Principal Aminath Shahadha told Sun on Sunday that poetry-centered assemblies were held in both morning and afternoon sessions. She noted that students read out poetry during the morning session assembly.

Moreover, the school was decorated with banners providing information on the National Poet’s Day.

Similarly, Thinadhoo School also held a poetry-centered assembly. In addition to this, students were taught how to read and write poetry during their Dhivehi language periods.

Thinadhoo Aboobakur School’s Principal Mohamed Ajeeb reported to Sun that the school also held a special assembly centered around poetry, while activities such as reading Ramla’s poems, speaking in poetry and plays were also carried out.

Some schools have also planned to celebrate National Poet’s Day during non-school hours.

In this regard, Ahmadhiyya International School has scheduled a special ceremony for 8:30pm tonight to commemorate the day which will feature activities such as poetry reading.

Izzudheen School will be celebrating National Poet’s Day with colorful events on next Thursday.

The official ceremony to mark this year’s National Poet’s Day is scheduled for next Friday night.
