Pakistan High Commission and MMC discuss scholarships for Maldivian journalists

Maldives Media Council (MMC) and the Pakistan High Commission in Maldives engaged in discussions Monday, regarding securing short-term and long-term scholarship programs for Maldivian journalists.

The meeting was attended by MMC’s president Ahmed Mustafa, members Moosa Rasheed, Arman Rasheed, Mohamed Afrah, and secretary-general Dr. Ibrahim Sameer, along with Pakistan high commissioner Vice Admiral (Retired) Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani, and deputy high commissioner Zulqurnain Ahmad.

According to MMC, discussions during the meeting focused on sending Maldivian journalists to Pakistan for training, and bringing in experts from Pakistan educational institutes to conduct training programs in Maldives.

The Pakistan high commissioner provided assurance of his full support towards facilitating training opportunities for Maldivian journalists, according to MMC.

He also promised to work to facilitate a Memorandum of Understanding between MMC and Pakistan’s Information and Broadcasting, in order to conduct the training programs.

Monday’s meeting comes at the heels of similar discussions with the Indian High Commission.
