Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi has been appointed as the spokesperson for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s MDP Primary election campaign.

Kinbidhoo MP and a leader of President Solih’s campaign, Mohamed Naashiz, revealed that Mariya has been appointed as the translator for the campaign.

Mariya has held the position of spokesperson in Solih’s 2018 campaign as well.

Running against Solih in the MDP primary is the party’s leader - former president and current Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed.

Since Solih announced his intention to contest in the primary election, which will be held on January 28, Ministers and parliament members that belong to the party have started door-to-door campaigns and even public meetings.

However, the President has not been seen as being very active in the campaign so far.

This has earned frequent criticism from his opponent - Nasheed. As per him, the campaign is being run entirely in President Solih's absence.

Amidst criticism, the president's campaign team has announced that an event that he will participate in will be held Wednesday night at 2100 at the main hub of MDP.

The campaign team requested the presence of as many supporters as possible for the event.
