MNDF: Controlled oil spill near MPL

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) stated that the oil spilt near Maldives Ports Limited has not been removed and that it has been brought under control.

According to MNDF, reported of a large amount of oil was made at around 0910 hrs on Sunday.

Subsequently, Coastguard divers and oil pollution response team kicked off the task to remove the spilt oil.

Additionally, MNDF said that the spill near MPL has been removed, and the retraction of the remaining oil near the presidential jetty is still ongoing with the use of a boom.

Furthermore, with the use of CJ Halaveli, the work to place more boom near the presidential jetty to contain the oil and prevent it from spreading beyond that area.

MNDF noted that due to the amount of oil spilt, they would be working into Sunday night to remove and contain the oil.

The authority also noted that assistance provided by MNDF Male’ area Costguard’s squadron, Male’ area marines, marine police and Male’ City Council in this operation.
