‘Thiki’ app conducts thalassemia screening program at L. Atoll schools to mark 1st anniversary

To mark its first anniversary, ‘Thiki’, an application created solely with contacts of blood donors, has conducted a thalassemia screening program for students in Laamu Atoll’s Ihaddhoo School and Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani School.

The program which was conducted in collaboration with Laamu Gan Hospital featured thalassemia screening tests for students from the school in addition to an information session regarding the importance of thalassemia screening.

20 students from Ihaddhooo School and 83 students from Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani School did thalassemia screening tests during the program.

Commenting regarding the program – Thiki app’s Founder Anas Habeeb said that the purpose of it was to mark the applications first anniversary, and to conduct an event which is beneficial to the community. He also noted that the program aimed to create awareness amongst students on thalassemia.

“We created Thiki app with a pure intent, for a good purpose. To donate blood to save the life of another person through Thiki app. Therewith, we wanted to mark Thiki app’s first anniversary with a community event,” he had said.

Giveaways are also being as part of the celebrations of the first anniversary of Thiki app. In this regard, 12 giveaways are presently ongoing through the application’s social media platforms whilst efforts are underway to launch five additional giveaways.

Thiki app was launched last year. Over 800 blood donors a registered on the application to date.
