Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has announced plans to hold a large rally titled ‘Felaalaifi’ on December 23.
In a press conference Wednesday, PPM’s spokesperson Heena Waleed said the main opposition party plans on strengthening its political activities in the coming days.
Heena said that the ‘Felaalaifi’ rally will be held at the Alimas Carnival area of Male’ City at 08:30 pm on December 23.
‘Felaalaifi’ loosely translates to ‘stolen’.
Heena said there were certain reasons why PPM chose the name.
“There are certain reasons why this is of significance. As you all know, the current government governs by stealing from its people. USD exchange rate has increase, inflation has risen. And starting January, people will be charged more tax,” she said.
Heena said the government was also stealing from the people by imposing fines. She alleged that the government had nothing in its treasury, and was misusing taxpayer money.
She criticized President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, accusing him of embarking on unnecessary trips on taxpayer money.
The people must show they will not stand for this, she said.
