Parliament concludes last session of the year after completing 57% work

The Parliament went into recess on Monday, after concluding the third and last session of the year.

Regulations dictate the first session of the Parliament will be held from February to April, and that the second session will begin in May and the third session in August.

Total 43 sittings were held during the third session this year.

Vilufushi MP Hassan Afeef, who presided over the last half of the last sitting held Monday, said that the Parliament had completed 54.7 percent of the tasks.

45.3 percent of the tasks remain incomplete.

The Parliament took 20 votes Monday. Some of the key work conducted by the Parliament during the third session include the passage of the 2023 budget and the 2022 supplementary budget, and the tax bill and evidence bill.

The Parliament worked on 42 bills during the third session, including 29 bills submitted during the previous session, and 13 bills submitted during third session. The Parliament completed work on 25 bills, while work on 17 bills remain incomplete.

The Parliament also worked on 13 resolutions, and posed 89 questions to government ministers.
