MMA launches banknote with MVR symbol

Maldives Monetary Authority (MVR) is prepping to release re-prints of MVR 50 banknotes with the official symbol for the Maldivian Rufiyaa launched back in July.

The official symbol, which introduces an additional horizontal stroke to the Dhivehi letter ‘Raa’, was launched on July 3.

MMA received a shipment of MVR 50 notes of the Randhiha Faheh (Golden 50) note series reprinted due to a shortage in stock back in September last year.

On Sunday, MMA announced the reprints have the MVR symbol printed on both sides of the banknotes.

It marks the first time for the symbol to be used on banknotes.

The MVR 50 reprints are dated November 8, 2022/ Safar 12, 1444.

The date the notes will be released into circulation will be announced at a later date, said MMA.
