Deputy Transport Minister Shimaz Ali’s motorbike has been vandalized after threats.

In a tweet on Saturday, in which he had tagged Maldives Police Service, Shimaz said that his motorbike has been vandalized after being falsely accused. In his tweet, he also shared a picture of the vandalized motorbike and a screenshot of a WhatsApp message in which threats had been made against him.

Shimaz emphasized that his family is also being threatened.

“False accusations and threatening messages were not enough, now calling the family to threaten them, to achieve what?” he had said.

Shimaz was appointed as Deputy Minister on a slot awarded to the government coalition partner Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) in 2019.

Transport Minister Aishath Nahula has requested to dismiss Shimaz based on allegations of corruption via a letter to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih recently.

Nahula’s letter accused Shimaz of registering vehicles illegally for undue benefits.

The President’s Office’s Spokesperson Miuvaan Mohamed confirmed receiving the letter in question. He said that action would be taken against Shimaz after probe, if necessary.
