President: Government’s initiatives focused on finding the youth a ‘happy tomorrow’

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih states the youth-focused initiatives launched by his administration focus on finding the young people of Maldives a happy tomorrow.

He made the remark in a tweet on Saturday morning, on occasion of National Youth Day.

In his tweet, President Solih said his administration made education free up to Bachelor’s Degree, facilitated scholarship opportunities, opened vocational training centers, sports arenas, and launches loans for Small and Medium Enterprises.

“…All with the purpose of finding the youth a happy tomorrow and building a good generation,” he said.

The ‘free degree’ program had been one of President Solih’s electoral pledges. The program was launched in early 2019.

Over 15,000 students have enrolled in the program.

October 22 was declared the National Youth Day in 2019, following deliberations by President Solih’s Cabinet.

It had been on October 22, 15 years ago, that the Parliament passed legislature to enable voting rights for Maldivian citizens of 18 years and above was passed.

National Youth Day has been celebrated on different dates on numerous occasions in the past, which includes March 1, August 12 and November 17.
