Local non-profit Chefs Guild of Maldives collaborated with the Maldives National University (MNU)’s Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) to hold a special event on Thursday to celebrate the International Chefs’ Day.

International Chefs’ Day is marked annually on October 20, in recognition of the services of chefs and masters who have, and continue to the culinary arts.

A special event organized by the Chefs Guild of Maldives and FHTS to celebrate this year’s International Chefs’ Day was held at Kangaroo Kids Preschool.

900 students participated in the event.

The event saw three main sessions, including a session on healthy eating, a crafts session to create students’ own chef’s hat, and a live demonstration of healthy cooking using vegetables.

Chefs Guild of Maldives is also conducting different events across Maldives to observe International Chefs’ Day, including at Royal Island Resort, where chefs are holding week-long events to mark the occasion.

The theme for this year’s International Chefs’ Day is “Growing A Healthy Future”, signifying the importance of ensuring a healthy and sustainable planet for the future generations to come.

Chefs Guild Maldives stressed it requires teaching the young generations about the value of food and its significance to the environment – hence the event targeting students.

The International Chefs’ Day was first observed in 2004.
