The Indian government has handed over a speedboat procured under Indian grant assistance to Maldives Correctional Service.

The symbolic token was presented to Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu by Indian High Commissioner Munu Mahawar on Sunday.

According to the Maldivian Foreign Ministry, the handover of the speedboat marks the completion of the project under grant assistance scheme provided by the Indian government, which would be utilized to ease transportation issues and increase the capacity of Maldives Correctional Service to undertake its responsibilities in serving the community.

The total amount allocated for the project is MVR 8 million. The first component of the project concerned the procurement of land vehicles and the second component of the project, inaugurated Sunday, entailed the procurement of a sea vessel.

The project is financed from the grant assistance of USD 6.9 million (MVR 106 million) granted to Maldives by India in March 2019, to support high-impact socio-economic development projects across Maldives.
