President Ibrahim Mohamed Soih has declared Monday, October 3, as a public holiday, to celebrate Maldives’ first National Tourism Day.

The decision to mark National Tourism Day on October 3 was made by the President in accordance with the advice of his Cabinet back in August.

It was on October 3, 1972 that Maldives opened its first resort, Kurumba Maldives.

Maldives celebrates 50th anniversary of the commencement of tourism in the country this year.
