The Education Ministry on Wednesday announced the decision to shift from Edexcel International to Cambridge International for higher secondary school students sitting for AS and A’level examinations.

In a statement released by the ministry, it stated that schools will begin teaching for Cambridge examinations from the next academic year 2024-2025.

Additionally, it stated that after the first year of teaching, in October/November of 2025 the first Cambridge International A’level examinations will be held in Maldives.

The ministry further noted that the studies of students currently starting A’levels will be not disrupted in any manner by these changes.

While this is a major change for education, it remains unclear why the ministry came to this decision.
