Shiaau’s body to be transported to Fuvahmulah for funeral

The body of the young woman who was brutally murdered in an apartment in Male’ City in early August is scheduled to be transported to her home island, Fuvahmulah City, for the funeral.

Shiaau Mohamed Saeed, 22, was found murdered in an apartment on the ninth floor of H. Sheereen Villa on August 6.

Her body was transported back to Male’ after an autopsy in India on Saturday.

A family member told Sun Shiaau’s body will be transported to Fuvahmulah on a flight Sunday evening.

Her funeral is scheduled to be held at the Masjid al-Inara after Isha prayer.

Shiaau, a young musician, was found decapitated and her limbs dismembered. Her body was carried out of the apartment in two body bags.

Her body was sent to India for an autopsy on August 11. Her body is currently at the Galolhu Mortuary.

The crime was reported to police at approximately 11:15 pm.

Police arrested Ali Shaahil, 22, a local skater, from the scene of the crime. Police later confirmed Shaahil tested positive for drugs, and that they recovered weapons believed to have been used in the murder.

Shaahil has been jailed pending the outcome of his trial.

Shiaau’s murder marks the most brutal murder in Maldivian history.
