Car-bus collision: Three injured on ventilator support

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), on Tuesday, has stated that four people injured in fatal car-bus collision on Monday evening is being treated in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

IGMH’s Spokesperson told Sun that out of the victims from the accident brought to the hospital for treatment, four were being treated at ICU. The Spokesperson added that from the four victims – three were on ventilator support.

Whilst a total of six people were injured in yesterday’s fatal accident – one of the victims had passed away last night amidst being treated for injuries at the hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Mariyam Amaany, 23, Bilehmaage, GA. Maamendhoo.

The accident took place near Ekuveni Running Track in Male’ City, which involved a private car and a public transportation bus belonging to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

Video of the accident circulating on social media shows that it had occurred as a result of the car, being driven at high-speed, losing control and crashing onto the bus. The rear side of the car had collided with the front side of the bus – causing extensive damage to both vehicles on impact.

It was raining at the time of the accident – whereas the road was slightly flooded.

The video shows that the car had almost hit two joggers that were nearby at the time. They, alongside other pedestrians, are seen rushing to assist those injured following the collision.
