Colourful celebrations are being planned under ‘Abaarana 1443’ for this year’s Eid al-Adha in R. Maduvvari.

The President of the Eid Committee Hussain Shiham said that all five days of the holiday would be celebrated in a grand manner. He also added that after 22 years, this year’s celebration will feature ‘Bodumas’ (big fish) as well.

Bodumas is a popular part of the traditional Eid festivities in Maldives. The Bodumas is a large fish woven from coconut palm leaves and the play will feature fishermen trying to catch it.

Some other activities planned by the island are Maali dance, cartoon character activities, plays and a fish race open to the entire island.

Speaking further about the Eid plans, Shiham noted that this year’s most anticipated activity would be the ‘Bimu Dhaaba’, and added that it would be a very different item,

In addition to this, a family fair will be held on the evening of the first day of Eid for children. The fair will feature stalls from various offices on the island such as the Island Council, Police and Fenaka.

Shiham also revealed that Eid will conclude with a feast and that prizes will be awarded to the winners of the fish race later that night.
