Eid al-Adha prayers in mass congregation at four locations

Islamic Ministry states this year’s Eid al-Adha prayers will be held in mass congregations at four major locations across the Greater Malé area.

In addition to the mass congregations, Eid prayers will also be held at 25 mosques across Malé and Hulhumalé.

According to the Ministry, the designated venues for the mass congregations are planned at Maafannu Stadium area in Malé, the Villimalé Football Ground, the Synthetic Track in Hulhumalé Phase I, and the Sports Complex in Hulhumalé Phase II. In Villimalé, in addition to the outdoor congregation, prayers will also be held at Masjid al-Salam.

The 17 designated mosques in Malé include:

King Salman Mosque
Masjid al-Furqan
Masjid al-Noor
Masjid al-Shaheed Ali
Masjid al-Sultan Hassan Izzuddeen (Thaiba Mosque)
Masjid al-Sultan Mohamed Fareed-ul-Awwal (Dhunburi Mosque)
Masjid al-Shaheed Abdul Rahman (Fandiyaaru Mosque)
Masjid al-Sultan Mohamed Shamsuddeen (Bandaara Mosque)
Masjid Salahuddin
Masjid Jalaluddin
Masjid Ibrahim
Masjid Iskandar
Masjid Yusuf al-Barbari
Masjid al-Sultan Mohamed Imaduddin (Ran Mosque)

The designated mosques in Hulhumalé include:

Masjid Usman bin Affan

However, the Ministry noted that, given the current adverse weather conditions, if rainfall prevents the outdoor congregations from taking place, Eid prayers will instead be held at all mosques in Malé, Villimalé, and Hulhumalé where Friday prayers are normally held.

Eid prayers are scheduled to begin at 7:00am. This year, Eid al-Adha falls on Wednesday, May 27^th. In recent years, it has become a customary practice across the Maldives to hold Eid prayers in mass congregation.
