Tribunal orders to reinstate Dr. Iyaz

The Employment Tribunal of Maldives has ordered to reinstate religious scholar Dr Mohamed Iyaz Abdul Latheef – who was working as an Assistant Professor at Maldives National University (MNU) when he was dismissed.

Speaking to Sun, Dr Iyaz revealed that the tribunal has ruled to reinstate him within a period of seven days.

He was dismissed from his post in March 2021 following a controversial post made on social media.

At the time, MNU said that they had warned him three times regarding this and issued two written warnings as well.

Prior to his dismissal, he was suspended on a previous occasion due to a similar issue.

MNU made the move to dismiss him while the suspension case was ongoing at the Tribunal.

The Tribunal also ruled this case in favor of Dr. Iyaz in April this year.
