President appoints former Deputy Minister Mamdhooh as Tribunal Vice President

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Ahmed Mamdhooh as the Vice President of the Employment Tribunal.

Mamdhooh was sworn in at a special ceremony held this morning at the President’s Office. The oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice Aishath Shujune Mohamed.

The previous Vice President of the Employment Tribunal was Fathimath Mahira Mohamed, who was appointed to the post in April 2024 by the current administration. The reason for the vacancy was not confirmed.

Mamdhooh holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. He previously served as Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Economic Development, and as Deputy Managing Director and Acting Managing Director of the Maldives Road Development Corporation (RDC). He was appointed Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs on April 17, 2018, during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

According to the President’s Office, Mamdhooh most recently worked as a consultant on several projects implemented by the Male' City Council.

The Employment Tribunal is a body established under the Employment Act to hear employment-related cases and provide justice. Amjad Mustafa, who recently resigned as Chief Judicial Administrator, was appointed as the tribunal’s president on the 21st of last month. His appointment followed the resignation of former tribunal president Ishaq Hussain in May, who stepped down citing personal reasons.
