MET Office forecasts heavy rain as school holidays approaches

Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts widespread rain will affect islands across Maldives next week, as the school holidays approach.

The academic year is set to end next week.

Maldives Meteorological Service said it expected widespread rain across Maldives next week, starting Saturday.

Heavy rain is expected on Saturday and Sunday.

Maldives Meteorological Service said winds were expected to get stronger and seas rougher in the upcoming weekend.

“Its very light right now. We expect it to be generally rough next week,” said an official from the service.

Maldives Meteorological Service said seas were expected to be generally rough across Maldives. And that the seas would be rougher in northern and central Maldives than the southern region.

“We expect it to rainy in the upcoming week,” said the official.

The school-end holidays was changed to mid-year in 2020.
