President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Tuesday, has decided to establish ‘Maldives Health Service’.

The decision was taken by President Solih followi at the recommendation of his cabinet

Maldives Health Services would be tasked with improving primary healthcare, catering to the country’s public health requirements under a decentralised setup, developing human resources, and training technical staff in the health sector.

The establishment of ‘Maldives Health Services’ was initially announced by Health Minister Ahmed Naseem at a press conference held on June last year.

He detailed that over 108 healthcare service providers that are operating under the Health Ministry will be transferred to this institution – citing the difficulties faced by the Ministry when monitoring healthcare service providers whilst providing primary healthcare services at the same time.
