Thieves break into Media Council office, steal cash

Maldives Media Council (MMC) has reported a theft at its office in Male’ City.

MMC’s President Shahuban Fahmy told Sun that the council’s employees discovered the money safe had been broken into when they reported to work on Tuesday morning.

“It’s most likely the safe was broken into sometime last night. Approximately MVR 3,600 was stolen. We haven’t identified anything else stolen,” he said.

Shahuban said the safe had petty only cash.

He said that the lock had been tampered with to get into the safe.

MMC’s office is located on the second floor of Billoorijehige, located in the busy Majeedhee Magu of the Maldivian capital.

Shahuban said that there was no sign the door in and out of the office was tampered with.

He said that it looked like the thieves may have entered through the window in the toilet.

The case is under investigation by the police.
