Maldivian government was established a policy to blacklist contractors that fail to complete government projects.

The establishment of the policy was announced by Planning Minister Mohamed Aslam, while answering questions at the Parliament on Wednesday morning.

Questioning the minister, Inguraidhoo MP Hassan Ahmed (Hassantay) expressed concern that the sewerage project in R. Innamaadhoo remained incomplete, despite work on the project starting four years ago.

“SJ Construction has been constructing a sewerage system in Innamaadhoo for the last four years. There are just two or three workers there,” he said.

Hassantay asked Aslam whether the Planning Ministry had any plans of blacklisting such companies.

Aslam responded that the Finance Ministry had established a policy to blacklist contractors that fail to complete projects due to negligence.

However, the Finance Ministry has yet to publicize such a policy.
