President set for weekend trip to Addu to open India-funded Police Academy

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is scheduled to travel to islands in the south of Maldives in the upcoming Maldives.

President’s Office states that the President will embark on a tour of Fuvahmulah City and Addu City on Friday, March 25.

In Addu, the President will visit the districts of Gan, Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo, Feydhoo, and Hulhumeedhoo.

According to the President’s Office, the President, during his tour, will inaugurate the National Academy of Policing and Law Enforcement built in Addu with assistance from the Indian government. 

He will also sign the agreement to increase land in Addu, inaugurate practical work on Addu road development project, inaugurate Maradhoo harbor, inaugurateMeedhoo harbor, inaugurateMasjid Al-Ibrahim in Hithadhoo, and inaugurate a drug detoxification and community center. 

Work on the National Academy of Policing and Law Enforcement in Addu was initiated back in 2012. Construction work began in 2017.  

The Indian government invested USD 18 million on the project, which was contracted to India’s Sri Avantika Contractors. 

The President will conclude his tour and return to Male' on Monday, March 28.
