Elections Commission requests Finance Ministry to issue funds to PPM, JP

Following the submission of audit report and annual report, Elections Commission (EC) has requested Finance Ministry to issue funds to Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Jumhoory Party (JP).

EC’s Vice President Ismail Habeeb told Sun that from the four political parties the government had decided to issue funds to – they have requested Finance Ministry to release the amount of allotted funds to PPM and JP last week.

The remaining two political parties which qualified to government issued funds are ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Adhaalathu Party (AP).

Habeeb said that EC will be requesting the issuance of funds for these two parties with the Finance Ministry once they file their audit report and annual report.

Based on the number of members in the party, the party receiving the highest number of funds is the main ruling party, MDP. MDP comprises of a total 54,660 individuals. They are set to receive MVR 15.02 million in funds.

The party receiving the second highest number of funds based on the number of members is PPM. With a total of 34,237 members, they are set to receive MVR 9.4 million.

The party receiving the third highest number of funds based on the number of members is JP. With a total of 20,107 members, they are set to receive MVR 5.5 million.

AP, with 10,554 members is set to receive MVR 2.9 million.
