CADIZ, Spain (AP) — Spain's King Juan Carlos says he will undergo hip surgery next week to allow him greater mobility.
Juan Carlos told government leaders gathered at the Iberoamerican Summit that he has to "go back to the workshop."
"I'm here, a bit lame, but well," the 74-year-old monarch told Colombian President, Juan Manuel Santos, earlier on Friday as he steadied himself on two crutches.
Juan Carlos said he will be operated on his left hip. In April he was flown back from a controversial elephant hunting safari in southern Africa after fracturing his right hip joint.
The king has had several health scares in the past two years, including knee surgery and the removal of a benign lung tumor.
