Maldives Correctional Service revokes COVID protocols in prisons

Maldives Correctional Service states it has revoked the COVID-19 protocols enforced in prisons in accordance with Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s guidelines following the decision to lift the state of public health emergency. 

In a statement on Monday morning, Maldives Correctional Service announced it has revoked the special COVID-19 protocols implemented in prisons and reverted back to pre-pandemic standard protocols. 

The change is effective Monday. 

However, Maldives Correctional Service said it continues to recommend that masks continue to be worn during family and lawyer visits as a safety measure. 

Visitors will continue to be checked for fever and other flu symptoms, said Maldives Correctional Service. 

Maldives lifted the state of public health emergency invoked in response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Sunday, scrapping many of the safety measures including the nation-wide mask mandate and PCR testing for inbound travelers.
