Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated that the priority given to the education sector by the current administration is evident from all directions.
Speaking at a ceremony held at Iskandar School last night for the inauguration of Education Ministry’s ‘Principal’s Scholarship Scheme’, VP Faisal reiterated the commitment of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his administration to education sector development and strengthening the quality of education, especially through developing infrastructure and training human resources.
“If we look at any direction, what we witness is the policies of the current administration, especially President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, for the development of the education sector,” he added.
Highlighting some of the administration’s efforts to identify and address the concerns and issues facing schools across the country, VP Faisal assured that the administration is working towards addressing the concerns and challenges facing the education sector.
Noting that a long time has passed without individuals who wished to pursue careers in education sector getting that opportunity, VP Faisal stressed that training programs for educators need to be carried out continuously without halt.
He also stressed on the role of educators is integral in building productive generations of youth necessary for the progression of society, especially for a small country such as the Maldives.
He particularly described principals as team leaders responsible for educational institutions – urging them to exhibit effective leadership by listening to their faculty and students and promoting coordination and cooperation.
The ‘Principal’s Scholarship Scheme’ is an initiative of the Education Ministry to train principals needed for all government schools. At last night’s inaugural ceremony, VP Faisal presented award letters for 20 principals who are recipients of the scholarship. They are set to depart to Malaysia this month, to commence their courses.
