COVID-19: 2,484 new cases; 14,636 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Sunday, announced 2,484 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 117,461.     

According to HPA, the 2,484 new cases include; 1,268 cases from the greater Male’ region, 728 cases from residential islands outside Male’, 81 cases from operational resorts and three cases from liveaboards.

Meanwhile, 882 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 102,542.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 14,636 active cases.      

There are 47 patients in hospitals.      

7,536 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 3,515 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 36 percent.

Maldives has recorded 270 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October. 

As of present, 397,382 people have received their first dose and 369,151 people have been fully vaccinated, and 49,142 have received their booster dose.
