Transport Ministry urges to report taxis that refuse service within Male’ City

Transport Ministry has requested to report taxis that refuse service within Male’ City – while accepting longer trips to Hulhumale’ or airport.

The Ministry said that complaints have been filed with them over some taxis refusing customers if their destination is within Male’ City – whilst accepting longer trips to Hulhumale’ or airport.

Therefore, they have requested to report taxis refusing service within Male’ City to the Ministry’s phone number 7943434 via Viber.

Transport Ministry stressed taxi centers providing taxi services are subject to the Land Transportation Act and Regulation on Taxi Services – adding that legal action will be taken against taxi centers that fail to adhere.

Taxi trips within Male’ City usually cost MVR 25. However, after 12:00am it costs MVR 30.

Taxi trips from Male’ City to Hulhumale’ usually costs MVR 75. After 12:00am it costs MVR 80.

Taxi trips from Male’ City to Hulhumale’ Phase II usually costs MVR 90. After 12:00am it costs MVR 100.

Taxi trips from Male’ City to airport usually costs MVR 65. After 12:00am it costs MVR 75.

Difficulties in finding taxis have been a common complaint recently. A lot of people are in the view that this is as taxi rates within Male’ City are cheaper compared to the rest.
