Maldives’ universities and colleges given access to JSTOR e-library service

Maldivian colleges and universities now have access to JSTOR e-library – a digital library with over 12 million books and academic journals. 

The higher education institutions were provided access to JSTOR e-library service with financial assistance from the UNDP. 

14 colleges and universities were presented with documents confirming access to JSTOR e-library service by Higher Education Minister Dr. Ibrahim Hassan in a ceremony held at Youth Buzz in Male’ City on Monday. The 14 colleges and universities are: 

  • MAPS College 
  • Cyryx College 
  • MI College 
  • Maldives Business School 
  • Mandhu College 
  • Avid College 
  • Clique College 
  • College of Defense and Security Studies 
  • National College of Policing and Law Enforcement 
  • Maldives National University 
  • Islamic University of Maldives 
  • Zikura International College 
  • Villa College 
  • Maldives Polytechnic 

Higher Education Ministry also launched higher education institution's annual data collection portal in the ceremony. 

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Ibrahim described access to JSTOR e-library service as an important step to improve the quality of higher education in Maldives. 

He said that improving the quality of education at universities and colleges in Maldives had been his top priority since assuming office. 

“I have always said, education shouldn’t be something done for the sake of getting a certificate. You get educated to achieve a higher goal,” he said.
